About the Book

They were best friends, this Coshmoo and this Daniel. Had been for many years, ever since Delawares and settlers had lived side by side along the Susquehanna River.

But the winds of war that continually swept through their river valley caused tit-for-tat raids, first killing settlers, then killing the Delaware leader, Teedyuscung, forcing the Delawares to move north to Tioga Point.

And now, in 1776, the British king and the Senecas are trying to win Queen Esther and her Delawares to their side in an all -out war against the settlers. How can the determined Delawares remain neutral? How can Coshmoo and Daniel remain friends? Perhaps the mysterious trader McBride really does have the answer.

As told from the courageous Coshmoo's point of view, this pivotal moment in American history comes alive in Sally Keehn's powerful story of two boys determined that their friendship should stand up, even to war.
